What to Expect at KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU Virtual 2021
It’s official, it has been over one year since my last in-person tradeshow. I can’t say I miss the flights or the lunch lines, but I yearn for the days where I can join my fellow technologists face-to-face for a whirlwind week of catching up and hearing straight from the field, the good, bad, and the ugly feedback, then the community meetups where we get much the same but we also get to present, share and learn with other. The good news is that education does not stop for anything and as more virtual events occur organizers are continuously improving to bring the closest thing to a live interactive event experience they can to the comfort of our laptops.
Next on the docket is KubeCon + CloudNativeCon Europe Virtual, May 4 – May 7, 2021. The trade show is on track to be a record-setting event, gathering thousands of cloud-native contributors, adopters, maintainers, and technologists to learn about all things Kubernetes and cloud-native. Before you sign in, here’s what to look out for and also what fun things to do to interact with the community during the event.
Being a diamond sponsor, we get a lot of great opportunities to share what we have been doing in the community, with our open source strategy and releases, a focus around solutions to problems or considerations
Did someone call security?
Ransomware is a threat we hear about daily it seems and it is hitting every sector and platform, Kubernetes is included in that list. With all this mission-critical data being stored in object storage it’s no wonder that it’s become a high-value target for cybercriminals. This, in combination with the rising popularity of cryptocurrency, means that ransomware protection is now a requirement for IT departments of any size.
Join me for Securing S3 Backups Against Ransomware on May 4th at 13:50 to dive further.
Help, I Need Backup
Lightning talks are my favorite, 5 minutes to get your point across and no time to move around, just get straight to the point. Spoiler alert that the 3-2-1 backup will help you in all situations including protecting your workloads and data within Kubernetes.
Suspect is in pursuit
The Kubernetes storage landscape is changing dramatically fast, well actually not just the storage landscape but everything and that then becomes a challenge itself to keep up and know about security, networking, and storage amongst some of the complexities within the platform.
At the beginning of April, we released Kubestr, a handy little tool, or I have been calling it the easy button to identify, validate and evaluate your Kubernetes storage.
This session is a complete demo of the handy little tool and we hope you can take advantage of it in your environments.
Book a meeting
On top of all the great sessions across the board, for some people, the interaction is sometimes still the best place to get those questions answered. We have the ability to schedule those meetings on our virtual booth. Reserve a time to chat with us here.
I am not sure about you, but one of the biggest things I miss from in-person events is the swag, every now and again there are some great giveaways. Well, we have not let the virtualized and remoteness affect what we can get to you, we have teamed up with Nigel Poulton and his impressive handy little quick start eBook.
This is a perfect resource for anyone interested in learning more about Kubernetes with a hands-on approach. The catch is, well we want you to get hands-on with our lab and take Kasten K10 for a test drive. Get started here and get your book.

Don't Forget CNDM Days
Alongside KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU 2021 I am involved or I should say Kasten is sponsoring Cloud-Native Data Management Day which is a co-located event that will be running on the 4th of May and you can find out more details by hitting the site here.
I have been putting the schedule together and I am really looking forward to watching the sessions. As you can see from the session schedule below we have a mix of recorded sessions with the ability to learn from the community about use cases and tails from the field, technical sessions from industry experts about how technology solves certain issues, and an industry track from the sponsors talking about their efforts in the cloud-native space and solutions they have.
More to the point this co-located event with KubeCon is free. Register now to save your seat.
Personally, I am super excited to discover how many new and innovative vendors appear in this space, and more importantly to progress the continued learning journey I am having in the containers space along with many of you. I hope to see you there!
